In meinem Artikel „Equality of Results“ veranschaulichte ich, was das eigentlich bedeutet und warum es besser ist, als die sog. Chancengleichheit.

In „The case against equality of opportunity“ kann man nun nachlesen, warum eine Welt mit umgesetzter Chancengleichheit sogar eine furchtbare Welt waere.

Ich empfehle euch, meinen lieben Leserinnen und Lesern, diesen Artikel selbst durchzulesen. Er enthaelt viele anschauliche Beispiele und ist gut durchdacht. Ich praesentiere hier nur das, was ich als Essenz ansehe.

Zum Beispiel dies hier:

[…] equality of opportunity […] assumes […] that the most important thing is ensuring that only the smartest and hardest-working among us end up the victors. It assumes there will always be an underclass; it just wants to reserve membership for those who truly deserve it.

Das sollte man ein paar Mal in den Gedanken kreisen lassen, denn …

[w]e shouldn’t want a better underclass. We should want no underclass […]. A decent society shouldn’t try to build a better aristocracy. It should try to achieve a reasonable and rising standard of living for all.

Aber Chancengleichheit bedeutet auch das Folgende:

[…] any actions taken by […] families meant to help their kids get ahead are […] illegitimate. That means no private schools. No fancy preschool or daycare. […] No summer camps. No violin lessons or chess lessons or tennis lessons or theater classes.

Oder anders:

Equality of opportunity would make every parenting choice a matter of public policy, to be regulated accordingy

Ein weiterer Aspekt der sog. Chancengleichheit, kommt immer dann zum Ausdruck, wenn man sagt/meint/nachplappert, dass Bildung einen weiter bringt. Immer dann, wenn man vom sog. „lebenslangen Lernen“ hørt. Also im Wesentlichen das was ich oft im Begriff „Leistungsprinzip“ zusammenfassen und wo ich so oft gegen argumentiere.

Haeh? Bildung ist scheisze? Naja … DAS hab ich nicht geschrieben, aber eine Welt mit realisierter Chancengleichheit ist …

[…] a world where a good intellect is all you need to escape poverty […].

Und …

[t]hat all sounds rather pleasant. But equality of outcomes [results] would also help these poor, smart strivers. The difference is that while equality of outcomes promises gains for every poor person, equality of opportunity explicitly leaves some people out. It tells the poor who are not Mensa members […] that they deserve nothing.

Und wiederum:

[t]hat implies that even in a world of pure equality of opportunity, where environmental inequalities were eliminated […] there would be inequality.

Und nochmal, weil es so wichtig ist (gerade im sozialen Habitat sog. Akademiker):

[t]his obsession with effort, the conviction that it not only is the main difference between success and failure but ought to be as well, pervades the discourse on equality of opportunity. But effort is not the main difference between success and failure, nor should it be.

Nicht so sein sollte es deswegen:

[…] [making] a serious effort isn’t simply a personal choice. [!!!] It’s the result of millions of environmental and genetic factors: Did your parents push you growing up? Are you predisposed to depression? Did you go to a good school? Were you held as an infant? Did you inhale lead fumes as a child?

Oder anders ausgedrueckt:

The ability to work hard is a privilege, spread unevenly across genomes and households, with more going to the rich than to the poor.

Aehm … oehm … Chancengleichheit bla blubbs! … keine Alternative … die faulen Schweine will ich nicht durchfuettern … … …

People who struggle with motivation due to factors beyond their control […] do not deserve our scorn. They deserve our help.

Aber …

[e]lites [und die, die sich dafuer halten] like to talk about effort because it justifies their own positions. It provides a non-arbitrary explanation for their wealth and privilege.

Krass wa! SO hab ich das noch nie betrachtet. Aber wenn ich mir vergangene Diskussionen zu diesem Thema ins Gedaechtnis zurueck rufe, dann erklaert das einige Aspekte derselbigen ziemlich gut.

Das reicht fuer meinen Beitrag. Ich møchte die Lektuere des verlinkten Artikels nochmals ausdruecklich empfehlen.

Und als perfekten Abschluss muss ich nur den letzten Satz zitieren:

[e]quality of opportunity is not the goal. The goal is a good life for all. We should settle for nothing less.
